Perched on Munnar's slopes, this 2,400 square foot retreat challenges us to build responsibly in an environmentally sensitive zone. We've employed terraced foundation techniques that minimise land disruption while ensuring structural stability on gradient terrain. The design maximises breathtaking valley views through strategically positioned picture windows with double-glazed insulation for mountain climate control. Locally sourced stone cladding has been used to reduce transportation emissions, which further enables the residence to blend organically with the surrounding landscapes.
Our construction approach prioritised low-impact building: bamboo scaffolding during construction, rainwater harvesting systems integrated into the foundation, and septic solutions designed for hillside ecology. Every material choice, from reclaimed wood flooring to VOC-free paints, reflects our commitment to responsible residential development.
Inside, the layout follows the land’s natural contour, forming split-level spaces that feel expansive without excess square footage. Exposed timber beams and a stone fireplace anchor the great room, while sunrise-facing bedrooms remain peacefully tucked away. Geothermal floors, solar water heating, and composting support practical off-grid living. A wraparound deck and engineered drainage systems ensure comfort, safety, and sustainability against Munnar’s dramatic terrain.
